Are the Bears set up for the future at QB

The Chicago Bears took Justin Fields in the 11th spot round in 2021. At 6-3 and 230 he has the perfect build – but there have been constant concerns about his accuracy and ability to make the plays when needed after 3 seasons at the helm. Now they’ve traded him away to the Steelers and have Caleb Williams to lead the team in the windy city.

Rookie QB’s Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels likely leading the way for their teams this NFL Season. The Bears are sitting at the coveted #1 pick this year. What do they do with their option? Grab WR Marvin Harrison to add a serious threat for Fields to throw the ball to, or do they swallow their loss and pick a QB, and move past the Fields experiment? Maybe Williams, Daniels or one of the many skilled QBs in this draft, can be the future QB for the team when all is said and done, I would think that a guy with their skill level is worth taking a shot. Chicago has oftentimes settled for mediocre QBs, they have not had a lethal TD passer or even a 3500+ YD passer since Jay Cutler. The Bears may be trying to change things up this year, we will have to see.

We all know that just because a QB is ranked high, doesn’t mean they are going to be good, simply review Vince Young and Ryan Leaf. The top QB expected this draft year is likely between Williams and Daniels depending on where you read.

The scoop on Daniels is that he is an extremely efficient dual threat player, with 40 passing TDs and 10 rushing TDs last season, and Williams has been awesome with ball placement, hitting 68.6% and 30 passing TDs last season at USC, but considering the WRs the Bears have, would either of them succeed either? Maybe 6-3 WR Harrison added to 1300 YD WR DJ Moore and Fields might be the connection the Bears need?

I feel Caleb Williams is a “safe” pick, if he ends up being the answer, then the Bears might be getting their QB. Of course, if he bombs, then Chicago just burned a #1 pick. Taking either a WR or QB at this spot would be great for them, this is a no lose position for options. I believe that the team can teach Williams the system, as he can also move in the pocket and roll out if needed.

A QB could be the pick and with a whole lot of potential with some proper grooming, I think that given the opportunity with a great skill set, and good coaching, young QBs can be successful. The only thing we can do is give them a chance and support them to succeed. With that, I think the Bears have seen what Fields is and what he can and cannot do, after 39 games, a 3.2% interception rate, 0 seasons with even 3000 passing yards, and continuing poor performance when under pressure in the pocket – I think picking a QB from the group they have the option for here is the direction to go in.
